Dietetics FAQs
What does a Paediatric Dietitian do?
A Paediatric Dietitian works closely with children and families to help build healthy, balanced relationships with food to support both growth and wellbeing. We assess, monitor and support children with feeding concerns, growth delays, food allergies, chronic conditions and more.
What age groups do you work with?
We work with children of all ages - from newborns and toddlers, to school aged children and teenagers. Whether you are starting solids with your infant, navigating fussy eating or want some support regarding your child’s nutrition, we would love to help you!
What can a Paediatric Dietitian offer?
•Do you want to improve your child's relationship with food? •Is your child a picky or fussy eater? •Do you need support to safely introduce allergens? •Are you ready to introduce solids, but don’t know where to start? •Are you concerned about your child’s growth and development? •Do you need help managing food-related gut symptoms? •Do you want advice on packing your child’s lunchbox for school? •Are you looking for a fun, hands-on approach to get your child involved in food and cooking? If yes, let’s work together! We offer evidence-based advice to support your child and ensure they are thriving.
What Dietetic services do you provide?
We offer initial and follow-up dietetic services where we assess your child’s nutritional intake and discuss any concerns. We then continue to work together to ensure we are achieving our goals. Additionally, we offer evidence-based nutrition support through Interactive Cooking Sessions, from the comfort of your own home. These sessions can target a range of goals, from independence in the kitchen, to fussy/picky eating and food aversions. If you are interested in school or pre-school visits, please contact us via email to discuss our options - nutrition education presentations and hand-on cooking classes.
Do I need a referral to see a Dietitian?
No referral is needed to see a Dietitian. However, if you have a referral, please ensure it has been attached when you submit your enquiry to join our waitlist! Alternatively, if you are using a care plan, a referral from your GP is required.
Do you work with children with autism, sensory issues or developmental delays?
Absolutely, we love supporting and working with neurodivergent children who may experience sensory aversions, restrictive eating patterns, or behavioural feeding challenges. Our goals are always tailored to your child’s unique needs. We work closely with other Allied Health providers including Speech Therapists, Behavioural Therapists and Occupational Therapists, to ensure we have a team available to support you with any concerns you may have.
Can you help with childcare and school meal planning?
Yes, we can provide advice on packing school lunches and navigating childcare menus. We are currently taking expressions of interest for a ‘School readiness: Packing a school lunchbox’ seminar. Please email us if you are interested, and you will be notified when a session is available to book!
What funding sources are available to see a Dietitian?
For NDIS participants, NDIS funding can be used to access Dietitian services at Coral Tree Kids, if your nutrition concern relates to your disability. For example, if your child has food aversions or requires support in cooking meals. If you are a private client, you may choose to pay for services privately, or if you have Health Insurance or Medicare, you may be able to claim a rebate for a portion of the service. Alternatively, you may be prescribed a healthcare plan from your GP, which may also cover a portion of the cost.
